Giannoula Kyrkou is a midwife and graduated from the Midwifery Department of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens in 1990. Since 2012 she holds her Master’s Degree in Female Reproduction Research from the Medical School of Athens of the National Kapodistrian University, while from 2016 she holds a PhD from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a grade of “Excellent”. From 1990 to 2003, she worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, in the Delivery Room and in the Postpartum Department as a midwife at the General Hospital “Elena Venizelou”. From 2003 to 2020, she worked at the University General Hospital “Attikon” as Head of the midwives and nurses’ staff of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which she organized administratively, trained the midwifery/nursing staff and carried out the medical-mechanical, hospital, pharmaceutical and sanitary equipment. At the same time, she participated in publications, Greek and International conferences, workshops, seminars, announcements and writing book chapters. She also participated in the evaluation and certification process of the Hospital as a “Baby Friendly Hospital” by UNICEF.

From April 2020 until today, she is an Assistant Professor of the Midwifery Department of the School of Health Sciences and Welfare of the University of West Attica, Permanent Gazette Number 2248/τ.Γ΄/09.07.2023

During her career at the Midwifery Department of the Uni.W.A., has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, authored book chapters, and presented at conferences.

She also participates in the administrative, teaching and laboratory tasks of the department’s undergraduate and postgraduate study programs and in its collaborations with other Departments of Uni.W.A. and other Universities.
